There are 150 Bicycles in Leeds…
Imagine the title is sung to ‘Nine Million Bicycles’ by Katie Melua and it will make more sense. Kind of.
Woolgather are a fine young group based in Leeds who aim to commission more art for the public realm and keep more talent in the city by giving them opportunities. They recently partnered with East Street Arts and their Juliana’s Bike programme of events to furnish the Art Vending Machines with bike-themed artworks. If the picture above is anything to go by, it’s safe to assume I successfully pitched to take part :)
150 unique bikes – some classic, some unusual, and some Tour de France winners in there too. Each printed and trimmed and headed for the Art Vending Machines located around Leeds. Available throughout August as part of Juliana’s Bike. I’ve been posting sneak peeks throughout July as I worked on them and they certainly sparked some fond memories, especially of childhood bikes, and some keen cyclists even recognised a few.
I’ve had a few people ask about stickers and prints and whatnot, so if I can raise the pennies to get them printed, I’ll keep you posted :)
